    1)                E i n l e i t u n g

    Aufgabe der vorliegenden Diplomarbeit war es, ein Gebiet
 im Himalaya geologisch zu kartieren. Dabei war speziell der
 kleintektonische Formenschatz zu untersuchen, um Aus-
 sagen über den kinematischen und zeitlichen Ablauf der Ge-
 birgsbildung zu gewinnen. Eine globale Übersicht mit der
 Lage von Tansen (Kartiergebiet) zeigt Abb. 1.
    Die Arbeit entstand auf Anregung und unter Betreuung von
 Prof. Dr. W. SCHWAN, Erlangen. Besonders danke ich auch
 Herrn Prof. Dr. P. S. SAKLANI, Dr. C. K. SHARMA und Dr. B.
 N. UPRETI für die spezielle Zuweisung des Arbeitsgebietes
 bei Tansen und die Betreuung in Nepal, nachdem die zuerst
 im Indischen Himalaya vorgesehene Geländearbeit durch die
 schwierigen politischen Verhältnisse unmöglich geworden
 war.
     Im Gebiet von Tansen in Zentral-Nepal treten auf rela-
 tiv kleinem Raum verschiedene Gesteine nebeneinander auf.
 An 71 Geländetagen wurden ca. 30 km2 Fläche kartiert.
 Es kamen die Methoden der geologischen Kartierung mit Feld-
 buch, Hammer, Geologenkompass und HCl-Fläschchen zur An-
 wendung, dazu die speziellen Methoden der Kleintektonik
 mit Aufschlußzeichnung, Fotoapparat, Maßband, Gefügedia-
 grammen und Dünnschliffen. Die Methoden im einzelnen
 sind im Anh. I beschrieben.

    1)                 Introduction


    The task of the present diploma thesis was to work out
 a geological map of an area in the himalayas. Herein was
 especially to watch about the small scale tectonic patterns
 to enable declarations about the chronology and kinematic
 of the mountain development. A global view with the
 position of Tansen (working area) shows fig. 1.
    The work was created at the investigation of Prof. Dr.
 W. SCHWAN, Erlangen. Specially I give thanks to Prof. Dr.
 P. S. SAKLANI, Dr. C. K. SHARMA and Dr. B. N. UPRETI for
 the assignment of the mapping area around Tansen and the
 maintenance in Nepal. The field work was planed originally
 in India, but by difficult political constellations this
 plan failed.
    In the area of Tansen in Central Nepal appear different
 rocks closely side by side. In 71 days ± 30 km2 were
 mapped. The methods which were used were the methods of the
 geological mapping with field book, hammer, geological
 stratum compass and little HCl-bottle. Additionally the
 methods of the small scale tectonics were used with outcrop
 drawings, yard-stick, orientation diagrams and thin
 sections. The methods are described in detail in appedix
 I.
